The Latino Journal magazine focuses on public policy and government from a Latino perspective.
The publication began in 1996 and has served to inform Latinos and non-Latinos about the formulation of public policy and the people involved.

In 2001 Latino members of the California legislature asked the California Research Bureau to find out why Latinos made less money than other ethnic groups. The seventy-five page report concluded Latinos made less money because they were less educated than other groups.
That year the Latino Journal set a course to form a strategic tie between Hispanic business leaders, educators and community leaders in an economic development forum held in the City of Industry, California.
It was obvious that more needed to be done. So, in 2002, the magazine collaborated with state entities and began to hold education summits to find out why Latinos, African Americans, immigrants and other students were not achieving the quality education envision by education leaders.
Jose L. Perez, founder and publisher of the Latino Journal, champions adequate funding for education, elimination of the drop out rate, quality teachers and for parental involvement in their children's school. Moreover, Mr. Perez is determined to work with education stakeholder leaders to realize the notion of leaving no child behind. The stakeholders include:
